About the Author

I was blown away by Master Okawa's spiritual insight!

Having read many a tome on spiritual progression, I was unprepared for the highly enlightened words that Master Ryuho Okawa shared within the pages of the Laws of The Sun. His well thought out theories on human evolution and the creation of the entire universe are a banquet for the starving mind of every person alive today. We all have questions about why we exist and why we are even alive and suffering. These are but the smallest of details that are answered when you choose to read The Laws of The Sun. One concept that truly floored me, was that I could always give all of my love,unconditionally, to others, and never ever worry about receiving love back from them. Because, all of the love and nurturing I would ever need actually comes from God. Not from others. This concept has changed my life forever. I hope you too can read this wonderful book and receive it's powerful gift!

Great Spiritual Guidance and answers to life questions

I love reading this book for many reasons because it has the answers to life's most simple and difficult questions that people have as they live their journey here on Earth along with details about what to expect after our time here on Earth is complete. Our time on Earth is a special gift for a very short period of time in the grand scheme of things, however, the spirit world is eternal and soul training is ongoing. This book is vital to understanding our purpose here on Earth and gives great guidance to help us with our workbook in life lessons and defines the best life practices for us to return to the spirit world with honor, dignity and integrity with a polished soul that shines like a diamond ready for our next mission.

Its design is nice! Its contents are nice! I love it!!
The combination of Buddha’s teaching, the Eight-fold path, and the teaching of love like Jesus is beautiful!!
His idea of the structure of the heavenly world is also far above that of Swedenborg.
In addition, his idea of the world history involved by the God and many angels is interesting.
I feel that his idea can unite all philosophies and religions.
I hope everyone will read at least one time.

And wait to watch the water clear...

This is his last book with new poems. He is regarded as one of America's greatest poets. Among his many honors are four Pulitzer Prizes and an appointment as Consultant in Poetry at the Library of Congress.

At John F. Kennedy's inauguration on Jan. 20, 1961, he was called the Poet Laurete of U. S. A. to be acknowledged by such an educated president to take part. He was such an old man, he fumbled his papers, as he read "The Gift Outright." This was the first time when a poet had been so honored and marked a high point in his long and distinguished career.

When the English poet W. H. Auden wrote an essay in praise of Robert Frost, he made the observation that he was literally in a class by himself: "the class of nature poets who have worked with the land and actually know how to milk cows and, in general, can life the life of a Yankee farmer. In his elder years, in Florida, he planted orange groves and other fruits.

He was more than a poet and man of letters. He was a public figure and had by the time of his death in 1963 become a nation's symbol. His most famous poems are "Stopping by Wood on a Snowy Evening" and "Mending Wall." In his book, NORTH OF BOSTON, you will find a long poem/fable called "The Generations of Man."

Since I am a bird fancier, I chose "Looking For a Sunset Bird in Winter" (as I look for birds year round in this town which hates starlings and pigeons.

The west was getting out of gold,
The breath of air had died of cold,
When shoeing home across the white,
I thought I saw a bird alight.

In summer when I passed the place,
I had to stop and lift my face;
A bird with an angelic gift
Was singing in it sweet and swift.

No bird is singing in it now.
As gilt to gold that wouldn't show,
A brush had left a crooked stroke
Of what was either cloud or smoke --
From north to south across the blue.
A fpercing little star was (shining) thru.

In YOU COME, TOO, Noel Perrin write in his foreword, that Frost was determined to use "the ordinary language of ordinary people, and to transmute that plain Yankee speech into shining verse."
President Kennedy is quoted, "...has bequeathed his nation a body of imperishable verse from which Americans will forever gain joy and understanding."

NORTH OF BOSTON was written along with all sorts of briefer things in rhyme in a form suggested by the eclogues of Virgil. He'd tried for years to get his poems published in 'Atlantic Monthly who automatically rejected each and every thing he submitted. I used to love poetry but could not write it; Tristan, on the other hand, was such a writer, though his dad Zach was more into prose like his old mom, except for the science fiction and sports. Robert Frost was a true classic.

During the four years of the Civil War, the border between eastern Kentucky and southwestern Virginia was highly contested territory, alternately occupied by both the Confederacy and the Union. Contested Borderland examines the features of the region's geography and the influence of the attacks on borderlands caught in the crossfire of the Union and Confederate forces. The land surrounding the Kentucky-Virginia border contained valuable natural resources and geographic features considered essential to each army's advancement and proliferation. While the Appalachian Mountains barred travel through large parts of the region, the gaps allowed quick passages through otherwise difficult terrain and thus became hotly contested areas. Brian D. McKnight explores the tensions between the accomplishment of military goals and the maintenance of civilian life in the region.

With Kentucky remaining loyal to the Union and Virginia seceding to the Confederacy, populations residing between the two states faced pressure to declare loyalty to one side. Roadside towns found themselves the frequent hosts of soldiers from both sides, while more remote communities became shelters for those wishing to remain uninvolved in the conflict. Instead of committing themselves to either cause, many individuals claimed a neutral stance or feigned dedication to whichever side happened to occupy their land.

The dual occupation of the Union and Confederate armies consequentially divided the borderland population, creating hostilities within the region that would persist long after the war's conclusion. Contested Borderland is the first Civil War study exclusively devoted to the border separating eastern Kentucky and southwestern Virginia. McKnight's unprecedented geographical analysis of military tactics and civilian involvement provides a new and valuable dimension to the story of a region facing the turmoil of war.

A Must-Read!

Heads-up to all you management, HR and training folks out there-- this one's for you! "On-Demand Learning: Training in the New Millennium," by Darin Hartley is a must read if you have anything to do with learning in a corporate environment. Darin manages the Learning Technology Services Dept. at Dell and is an expert in the many issues of corporate training in an online environment. His expertise has been gained by on the job experience...so listen up!
When I was coordinating world-wide geoscience training for Exxon, I used to joke to my management that what my corporate clients wanted was training that was free, met their schedules (not the training department's), and took absolutely no time to assimilate. Something that could be stirred into a coffee cup and voila! A new skill set magically up and running in no time. Five years ago we didn't have the technology to approach that scenario, but now we do...and Darin shares his knowledge gained from years of practical experience in this book.
The central focus of "On-Demand Learning" is how to make training highly accessible within a corporate system: what are the alternatives to classroom training; what training can be delivered via alternative methods; what training cannot be delivered online; how to move into a technology-enabled learning (TEL) environment; and how to manage client expectations. This book is thoughtful, extremely well-designed, has a very high information to ink ratio and includes tons of applied examples, as well as tips for tackling the political realities of implementing TEL in any corporate environment. One of my favorites is the chapter containing Dell's TEL Strategy, which can serve as a template for any size organization. If you have anything to do with training in a corporate environment, read this chapter first. You'll understand why your own TEL initiatives either flew-- or crashed and burned!!

Obviously "on-demand" is code for "as-desired" or "as-needed." Therefore, to be effective, an "on-demand learning program" must be immediately accessible and, more importantly, permit self-directed participation. Now or very soon, a majority of us will work primarily in virtual environments. Therefore, organizations must provide support services (eg learning programs) which are user-friendly.

At the end of each Section, Hartley summarizes key points and also provides a Glossary of key terms. This information will be especially helpful to the vast majority of readers who have relatively little (if any) prior experience with designing and/or managing on-demand learning programs. For them, I suggest, this book will be most valuable. In the New Millennium, only through various learning experiences will an organization's "greatest asset" (its people) be maximized as "intellectual capital." Hence the great benefit of this book. In a single volume, Hartley presents just about everything a reasonably intelligent person needs to know to formulate and then implement effective on-demand learning in her or his organization. For more advanced discussions of this subject, I recommend the works of other authors such as Peter Senge. Meanwhile, for most executives who are (or will soon be) directly or indirectedly involved with relatively uncomplicated on-line training programs, Hartley's counsel and guidance will be invaluable.

hedges: beauty, habitat and use

this book is written for england so yanks will have to adapt the species to their area, especially if you live in the north, but it is worth every cent because it provides so much knowledge about the techniques of hedge laying and hedge management. hedges offer such a diversity of benefits to farmers and backyard gardeners such as windbreaks, habitat for beneficials, diversifying the farm with micro niche products, etc. if you are not a farmer a hedge is a great way to add beauty and habitat to your yard for song birds, small mammals, etc. this book should be MUCH more popular in america.

Good for the modern industrial farmer in England.

Well written overview of the history, species and maintenance associated with hedges in England. It also touches on the English laws pertaining to hedges. The only critique I have is that it assumes the use of tractors or other heavy machinery, and does not really discuss the historical methods at all. If you are not in England and don't plan to use machinery to plant and trim your hedges, this book is less helpful than it could have been. Otherwise excellent.
