Never, has there been a more consice, understandable method for presenting
the secrets of Cartooning, Illustration, and Animation anywhere.
Not at any price, not at any University, and not by anyone else. Ever.
Blair's book"Animation", originally sold for One Dollar, in every art supply store in America.
Nearly every Animated Cartoon from the 1930's to Toy Story has felt his influence.
No true Art Professional has Ever been without this book, nor would
part with that dog earred original copy purchased at the dawn of his training.
For us, and al of Animation , there is the Sun, the Moon......and Preston Blair's "Animation".

Was given this book by my cousin when I was 5 years old - I still own it and it's helped me all my life in drawing and understanding motion, weight, volume, pacing and mouth positions for animating talking - a treasure for sure I am so lucky to own this first edition copy.

Cartouche Cards - an effective oracle

I bought my first set of these excellent cards about fifteen years ago, drawn by the Egyptian imagery. I "played" with them for a few years before starting to use them in my professional readings, and since then my understanding of the cards has deepened considerably. As with any predictive tool, it is necessary to establish a resonance with the cards, and I've found that this has developed more readily for me with Cartouche cards than with the Tarot's Major Arcana and the Runes, both of which I have used in the past. Over the years, Cartouche cards have slotted themselves on to an inner framework in my own depths, and the meanings that the cards reveal to me now vary slightly from those in the book "The Way of Cartouche". Clients are continually astonished at the accuracy of the cards and the helpful advice that can be drawn from them, and many are delighted by their attractive appearance, too.
Having worn out two decks of Cartouche cards, I am now in the market for a third!

These cards are Sirius!

I've been stepping up my efforts with the psychic work that I do, as an astrologer and tarot reader. Lately, I haven't been feeling the traditional Tarot (Rider-Waite) deck. So I've been nostalgic about my very first deck, the Way of the Cartouche! Man, I loved those cards. I only got rid of them because (1) they told me to do so (2) because I wasn't open to them after awhile. In my early 20s, I strayed away from metaphysics to empiricism/pragmatism. So, at my spiritual nadir and at the height of my abilities with the cards, I didn't have much use for them or they for me.

Now, nearly 15 years later, as I look back on my notes and journals from doing readings with this deck, I believe I gave some of the most phenomenal readings of my life. I highly recommend this deck as the imagery and ideas conveyed in this deck manifest on a very deep level. They somehow generate very meaningful and accurate answers, answers that speak faster and clearer than the 72 cards of the canonical Tarot, for me.

So now I'm on the market for a set of cards (and the book)! This definitely a good buy.

Phenomenal

My first set was the larger ones (still have 'em), that actually_warned_ me of the consequences of following the spiritual path of the giver! The cards are very hard to corrupt, unlike reports I've heard about used Tarot cards (I read Tarot, too).

The readings have been very accurate for me. They even answer a question other than the one you ask, but need to know. The cards really do invert when they need to.
When I cast the soul reading, I wondered if it would show that I was a Star Person: The first card up was Sirius!
I highly recommend this oracle.

Mysterious and creepy

I am only 2 issues in, but have to say that this book is again a great read by Mr. Hawkins. The story and characters are creepy and interesting, the murder mystery is mysterious and the art is somewhat bleak but beautiful, which supports the already spooky atmosphere of the book.

Small town America with a difference

I only have issues 1 & 2 so can only comment on those: this is a small town in America called Eden, full of criminals, administered by a female Mayor and a Reverend who do not tolerate any crime in the town. Our narrator, the son of the Mayor, has Asperger’s and is the town postman – thus the title. He wants to find out everything – much to the dismay of the other inhabitants.

The second issue centres around the finding of a girl’s body, the destruction of that body and the reason that it has been left there. We discover more about the relationships in the town and how it came about.

ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE!!!

I don't know what else to say other than I have NEVER read a comic as immersive and incredible as Postal. Matt Hawkins and Bryan Hill have true created an absolute masterpiece!! I am currently buying two issues every time the comic comes out and have plans to buy multiple copies of the trade to get more of my friends reading the series!! If you are hesitant on buying this, do yourself a favor and just do it, you won't regret it!!

About the Author

The team of authors, ReVelle, Whitlatch, and Wright, is well credentialed to provide a text that delivers both solid technical content and quality communication. ReVelle, a professor at Johns Hopkins for more than 30 years, studied with one of the originators of systems analysis in water management and teaches a course in civil systems regularly. ReVelle is also the author, with his wife Penelope, of The Environment, a basic college text that has appeared in three editions, and more recently of The Global Environment. Whitlatch, a professor in civil engineering at Ohio State, has been teaching a popular and well-received civil systems course for over 25 years. Wright, the Dean of Engineering at University of California, Merced, and the founding editor-in-chief of The Journal of Infrastructure Systems, has been teaching courses on civil systems and engineering economics for more than 20 years. The authors have collaborated on research for three decades. All three authors have distinguished records of research and application. Disappointment

This book is required for several courses in the civil engineering major at Ohio State University. I am a current student and had to "use" this book for one of my classes last quarter. The focus is on the economics of engineering projects, specifically waste water treatment plants/systems. The book explains nothing in very brief sections, yet asks homework questions about topics neither brought up nor explained in any depth/example. I feel as though no serious time or thought went into writing this book and I am extremely disappointed that this book was chosen to be used (possibly because one of the authors is a current and longtime faculty member???). Avoid if you can.

Too much text, not enough example

The subjects in this book are extremely broad and have a wide range of applications for systems engineering. So, I understand why the text was broad (they don't want to teach one method as if that's the only way of finding the answer), but that makes it so much more difficult to come up with AN answer. Luckily, most topics in this book aren't really all that complicated. But I remember some instances of staring at a table for 10 minutes trying to find out the pattern that was there while re-reading through the unnecessarily wordy text.

Not a fun book at all. I can't remember the name of the book at the moment, but I know that most of what I learned from systems engineering from another text with more detailed examples and an Excel-based approach for teaching solutions (even though that is not the ONLY answer).

Book provided the needed information to learn the subject. It however had numerous mistakes and our professor wasn't pleased with how things were laid out.

It's shocking how little has changed between the races in this country since 1963, when James Baldwin published this coolly impassioned plea to "end the racial nightmare." The Fire Next Time--even the title is beautiful, resonant, and incendiary. "Do I really want to be integrated into a burning house?" Baldwin demands, flicking aside the central race issue of his day and calling instead for full and shared acceptance of the fact that America is and always has been a multiracial society. Without this acceptance, he argues, the nation dooms itself to "sterility and decay" and to eventual destruction at the hands of the oppressed: "The Negroes of this country may never be able to rise to power, but they are very well placed indeed to precipitate chaos and ring down the curtain on the American dream."

Baldwin's seething insights and directives, so disturbing to the white liberals and black moderates of his day, have become the starting point for discussions of American race relations: that debasement and oppression of one people by another is "a recipe for murder"; that "color is not a human or a personal reality; it is a political reality"; that whites can only truly liberate themselves when they liberate blacks, indeed when they "become black" symbolically and spiritually; that blacks and whites "deeply need each other here" in order for America to realize its identity as a nation.

Yet despite its edgy tone and the strong undercurrent of violence, The Fire Next Time is ultimately a hopeful and healing essay. Baldwin ranges far in these hundred pages--from a memoir of his abortive teenage religious awakening in Harlem (an interesting commentary on his first novel Go Tell It on the Mountain) to a disturbing encounter with Nation of Islam founder Elijah Muhammad. But what binds it all together is the eloquence, intimacy, and controlled urgency of the voice. Baldwin clearly paid in sweat and shame for every word in this text. Speakers or headsets will have to be turned up to listen to Jesse L. Martin's low, slow reading of Baldwin's classic long essay on racism and African-American identity. Martin seeks to be respectful of Baldwin, but he ends up rendering the meaning and the force of his work relatively inert. Pausing in poorly selected places, placing emphasis where little should be placed, Martin does not convey the precision and anger of Baldwin's prose. Instead, Baldwin's book becomes Great Literature, to be intoned and honored, but not truly grasped. Readers with an interest in Baldwin's work will be far better served by reading his prose to themselves than having Martin read it to them. A Vintage paperback.(Apr.)

I thought of myself as an articulate, deep thinking, and worldly individual, however, after reading how eloquently Mr. James Baldwin captured so perfectly the global (especially American) misconception and political Hippocrates we all face even today, regardless of "colour/color" I know, with great humility, what it feels like to walk amongst literary giants and to acknowledge what a fool I am!

Brilliant

This is one of my two favorite books by Baldwin (the other is Giovanni's Room, and I am neither black, nor male, nor gay). The writing is clear, direct and powerful. Baldwin states home truths on race directly, baldly, and wisely. I think this book should be required college reading in the US, at every college and university, and for people of every race.

In addition to his frank, clear, and insightful messages and insights about race relations in America, Baldwin is a first-class rhetorician, a natural, and his diction is pitch-perfect.

I first read this book in college, when I was around 20; I am now 49 and have reread it many times. It remains a favorite. Highly recommended.

A book that is relevant today

Since I have lived through the time when Baldwin wrote this book up to this day , I must say he accurately described the past as well as what has come to be. We as a nation have not solved the problem but we do see the distraction of our moral fabric. In the sixties,we thought the race riots were the fire. Now we see the other end of the rainbow as destruction in our spirit. We black people have learned a lot about ourselves and about how power destroys. Our struggle is to keep our inner spirit.

If you have no idea where to start in the DC Universe, then this is the perfect guide for you.

This DC Essential Graphic Novel 2016 shows readers where to start if you have no idea where they should start, and even readers who have been reading DC for along time to give them other recommendations.

If you only want to read about certain characters, then this Essential Guide tells you where it is recommended to start for each of their titular characters (Superman, Batman, Wonder Women, Flash, Green Arrow, Teen Titans etc.). Along with this handy guide, at the end their is a complete list of graphic novels (as either trade paperbacks or hardbacks, not single issues) by DC and Vertigo, so if you were wanting a checklist of sorts see what you have and what you want or need to read then this is perfect for you.

As well as showing DC most popular characters, it also shows some of their other non-superhero graphic novels. These recommendations are perfect if you want to read graphic novels, but are not interested in the superhero genre.

Also, if you watch the DC TV shows (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, iZombie to name a few), it explains which graphic novels influenced the TV shows, as well as showing the tie-in graphic novels that are available for both Arrow and The Flash.
